Writer & Author Radio Host & MC Booker & Promoter Artist Manager Recording Academy Member Brooklyn bands' team mom since 2018

When asked what I do, I usually respond:

Pretty much everything in music except playing an actual instrument.

My story begins in 2017 as an ambassador and MC for Sofar Sounds NYC, where—working dozens of shows with hundreds of local artists across the city—I fell headphones over heels with the New York City music scene.

That led to the 2019 launch of Bands do BK, my blog highlighting the local music scene, which evolved into the Bands do BK book published by Lit Riot Press in 2022, a one-time radio show on Radio Free Brooklyn and a Substack newsletter called THE SETLIST.

For the last five years, I’ve booked and promoted shows at venues across New York City plus worked as part of the booking team at Arlene’s Grocery and Our Wicked Lady. I’ve also hosted an annual showcase at New Colossus Fest, booked and promoted unofficial showcases at SXSW and co-hosted a bi-monthly series of living-room shows called Strong Little Songs, through which we’ve raised thousands of dollars for nonprofit organizations.

In 2023, I joined the crew at 90.7 WFUV—non-commercial radio—as a DJ. Along with on-air duties (Monday-Wednesday, 6-10pm), I’ve interviewed artists including The Black Keys, Cold War Kids, Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind, Karly Hartzman of Wednesday—and many more—plus MC’d station events in front of hundreds of people and hosted fan Q&As with bands like The Head and the Heart and Mumford & Sons. And, in one of the biggest pinch-me moments of my life, opened for Soccer Mommy as a DJ at Central Park Summer Stage.

I’ve also served as an international industry delegate and/or moderated and spoken on panels at festivals at home and abroad, including New Colossus Fest (NYC), Viva Sounds (Gothenburg), Taverne Tour (Montreal) and Ireland Music Week (Dublin). I’ve hosted live sessions at AMERICANAFEST and Anti Social Camp and contributed artist interviews and articles to MANI and PUNK magazine. And since 2021, I’ve managed Brooklyn punk band Mary Shelley, who have since released two albums and toured the US, Canada and Europe.

With every project, in every role, on every platform, my mission is always the same: to shout REALLY LOUDLY about the artists I believe in.

Sam is a true LOVER. Lover of music first, lover of life, lover of people, lover of traveling. Her love of music shines throughout Brooklyn/NYC in how strongly she supports new artists/bands from all over the world. Whether they are local or here on tour, Sam has made a strong name for herself in helping to support the music community out of pure LOVE.
